Thanksgiving is now a staple in my home!

Bright Ideas!

I sat down, a few weeks ago as the holidays started approaching, and I grew extremely sad thinking about the lack of options and effort put forward when it comes to some holiday traditions, especially where Thanksgiving Dinner is concerned. I knew at that moment I was going to host a dinner and create memories for my family. I always wanted to host a Thanksgiving Dinner and this year I totally went for it.

The Goal

I wanted to create a Thanksgiving feast made by 3 generations to include my mommy, myself and my daughter.  Think about it, if we only hold memories with Mom, Grandma and Auntie in the kitchen, when are we going to create those memories for our children?

I thought to myself that we ( my generation) seem too caught up with the living room outfit that we may be taking away valuable character building memories from our children. I truly believe that the torch needs to be passed, and this year the process began for us.

Prep & Plan

I had to work of course so my mom and daughter held down a lot of the prep which made for a smooth process. My mom is actually a professionally trained chef, so I am grateful for her skills and took full advantage of them. Be sure to watch the prep work on our YouTube video.

The Execution

I invited close to 12 people because my house could comfortably handle that number and the turnout was perfect. I set the mood with festive music, in my case a little old school, and I made sure the bar was fully stocked. Every time I host I make sure to have a custom cocktail and this time I went with a Whiskey Sour. I visually set the tone with a beautiful tablescape for the adults and another area for the kids. I am a stickler about the food being done on time and that’s exactly what happened. We mapped out the timing perfectly and I even had time to get dressed up cute!

I had a print out of our menu and lets just say it was extensive and included everything you could want!

Collards w/ Ham Hocks
Crab Stuffed Mushrooms

I was sure to have games as well once the food is settled for people to enjoy and of course the football games were on for the guys.

Carrot Bundt Cake
German Chocolate Cheesecake
Fried Peach Pies
My vision realized

I think it’s safe to say mission accomplished and that I am now completely comfortable hosting Thanksgiving every year in our home.
