Date night is very important in any relationship, especially now during the pandemic. Finding things to do to help solidify your connection to each other is nothing to take for granted. According to couplescenter.org it fosters communication, increases feelings of intimacy, decreases the chances of taking each other for granted, decreases stress, and builds attachment. If you do have not dated your mate in a while, try out a few of my favorite date night ideas to keep the flames burning in your relationship.

Top 5 Date Night Ideas

Versus Home Edition

I have been pretty open about my obsession with game nights. I love participating in music challenges and trivia. I have fallen in love with a game that is the combination of the two. Playing AUXGOD – Music games is a great way to spend date night because it encourages competition, you get the learn new things together and it’s just really fun to play. Invite a few other couples over and have a double or triple date night Verzuz Style. It will be a date night you talk about for many days to come.

We even go as far as connecting the phones to speakers to really get into the game!

Throwback Collage

One way to really have fun going down memory lane is to take your favorite old photos and revive them in collage form. Its pretty simple to do. Simply choose a few of your favorite photos of places you have been, important events, or any special moments / memories you have together. If the photos are digital, use a free collage maker to put them together. Add stickers and text to personalize and you guys will create a new picture to share those great times together. If you have actual photos printed, get yourself a nice frame, tape or glue the pictures on the back, add stickers, buttons, ribbons or tickets to help illustrate the sentiment at the time the photos were taken. Add a handwritten note to make it even more special. Place the pictures in the frame, then display somewhere you will enjoy viewing it and reliving the memories together. This is a great opportunity to reflect and appreciate all that you already are as a couple to have more clarity on where you’re going.

Childhood Favorite Dish

Many of us marry people who have completely different food experiences growing up. One great way to help your spouse understand how you grew up better is to share some of your favorite foods from the past. On this date night, each person is responsible for preparing their favorite childhood dishes. Prepare it exactly as you remember without any updates, and extra bells and whistles. You both want to really experience what it was like eating at your house back in the day. Prepare the meals together and serve them on your favorite TV dinner trays, served with a pitcher of Kool Aid using old school plastic cups. Queue up an old movie or create an playlist featuring songs of the time and really take the time to discuss and enjoy the meal. Finding ways to understand each other better is often easier to do when there is good food paired with great conversation while sharing your food experiences. This is a great opportunity to get to know your partner better and watch them dig down memory lane.

Themed Travel Date Night At Home

Imagine having a romantic dinner in Paris, or eating lunch overlooking the Great Pyramids of Giza! Well, you and your mate can go there in the comfort of your own home. This date night idea is near and dear to me because my husband and I are both avid travelers and serious foodies. We will try almost anything at least once.

For this date night idea, plan to transport yourselves to somewhere you always wanted to go. Create a menu and prepare foods indigenous to that location. For Paris consider Chicken Cordon Bleu and Egypt think Falafel or a vegetable Tagine, just have fun with it. Set the mood by decorating the table using flowers, place settings or anything that hails from that region. Dress the part too. Put something on that works for that location so you can really get in to the experience of being there. And, do not forget to play music you would hear as if you were having a meal at a local café.

Candle Making At Home

Another great date night activity is candle making. It is a way to do a fun activity together that both of you will continue to enjoy long after the date has ended. Consider making a few candles using fragrances the will set the mood or evoke a special emotion. Add things to the candle that are special like flower petals or keepsakes from a past trip. Make the candles using each of your favorite colors. the possibilities are limitless.
